Local Resources for Seniors in our Community during the COVID-19 Crisis

During this pandemic, we at Solimine Funeral Homes are here to help in any way we can.  We have compiled a list of local resources for seniors in the hopes that it provides assistance and knowledge to our treasured members of our community.

Food/Stores

Due to social distancing mitigation, group meals will no longer be served at the local senior centers at this time. Instead, Greater Lynn Senior Services will be providing ‘grab and go’ pre-packaged lunches at the Lynn Senior Center (8 Silsbee Street) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. – noon

Meals on Wheels will continue to deliver meals to homebound seniors in our area. Instead of their usual daily deliveries, they will be bringing hot and frozen meals on Tuesdays and Fridays. For more information, or to begin the referral process, call 781-599-0110.

My Brother’s Table on Willow Street will also be providing grab and go lunches, that you may pick up for yourself, as well as other people, if need be. They will be operating Monday through Friday 9 a.m. -6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., here everyone is welcome to get a meal, no questions asked.

Many grocery stores are offering ‘senior-only’ hours to provide a safe shopping experience. Stop and Shop will be open early from 6 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Dollar General will be opening their doors an hour early each day for those over 60. Market Basket is also providing early shopping hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 a.m. – 7 a.m.

Medical Services

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to continue to stay healthy and maintain connections with your medical and mental health providers. Lynn Community Health Center is providing telehealth services to avoid needing to come into the facility. Call 781-581-3900 for more information.

For more information on staying healthy and additional services in the Lynn community, check out the following brochure called Staying Healthy During Coronavirus – English / Spanish.

You can also find more information on the Coronavirus, social distancing information and specific resources for the residents of the City of Lynn at www.lynnma.gov/coronavirus.

Keeping Busy/Connecting With One Another

Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) will be continually updating their website to provide information and videos that can assist you during this time. For more information, visit their website at www.glss.net.

The Marblehead volunteer organization called ‘SPUR’ will be providing assistance to Lynn residents in many ways during the pandemic. They are offering grocery and prescription pick-up and delivery, dog walking and technology help. In addition to these services they are also ways to connect with one another. Through their website, they are offering daily Zoom meetings, ranging in topics from sewing, to trivia and bingo. Click here for more information. If you’d like something more personal, perhaps a one-on-one connection; you can request a phone pal through a convenient form on their website. These are wonderful ways to remain connected to our community, and to come together, even when we need to be apart.

During this time, if the weather is nice, and you are able to, get out and get moving! Lynn has so many beautiful places to walk. If the weather is not amenable, or you are not able to get out of your house, you can find fun, low-impact workouts you can complete in your own home. YMCA is offering virtual fitness classes for seniors, a great way to get some physical fitness on a rainy day! Visit YMCA 360 to watch their fun videos.

It’s important to keep your brain active by reading and learning new things. The Lynn Public Library is offering a wealth of online services through their website. You are also able to register for a temporary card at www.noblenet.org/lynn/temporary-library-card so that you can use their online resources; download ebooks or e-audiobooks, take academic courses, learn new languages and many more wonderful programs.
