Mrs. Jayne (Melican) Solimine, 87 years of Nahant died on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Union Hospital surrounded by her loving son and family. She is the wife of the late Carmen Solimine. She was born in Brookline, the daughter of the late Daniel J. Melican and Ada G. (Bovenzi) Melican-Uva. Jayne was raised in Nahant and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She has lived in Nahant all of her life.
Jayne was a former Selectman in Nahant and she was the first elected woman Selectman in Nahant. She was a former Nahant School Committee Chairman. Jayne was the longtime Chairman of the Nahant Republican Town Committee, now chaired by her son, Kevin. She was a delegate to the 1972 Republican National Convention representing the 6th Congressional District. Jayne was a longtime member of the Nahant Village Church. She was a former Deaconess and Sunday School Teacher at the Village Church. Jayne was active in many town activities and was devoted to Nahant.
She is survived by her son Kevin L. Solimine of Nahant, a sister, Elizabeth A. Collier and her husband Everett of Lynnfield, a brother, Michael Uva and his wife Dianne of Texas She leaves many nieces and nephews, including Scott and Mary Collier of York, Maine Gregory and Jennie Collier of Watertown and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Jayne's funeral will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (rte 1A) Lynn followed by funeral services in the Nahant Village Church, 27 Cliff Street, Nahant at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
