Thomas P. "Buddy" O'Connor, 84, of Lynn died Friday January 18, 2013 peacefully at his home with family by his side. He was the son of Thomas J. and Ethel M. (Cook) O'Connor.
Born on November 11, 1928 in Matamoras PA, he was a graduate of Matamoras High School class of 1948. After graduation he enlisted in the Army-Air Corp/ US Air Force. He retired after 20 year with the rank of Master Sergeant and served his country in many locations around the world including; the South Pacific, Italy, Germany and many bases in the United States. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1968, Tom worked for several high tech companies in the local area and retired from ITEK-Litton Optical Systems in Lexington MA as a Senior QA Engineer in 1990.
Tom was the widower of Margaret M. (Maier), his beloved wife of 60 years, who passed in 2011. He enjoyed working on home improvement projects, woodworking, electronics, reading, dining out and time spent with his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his sister, Alice M. Sheare of Matamoras PA, daughters, Rita Riess and her husband Joseph of Peabody, Mary Alice Griffin and her husband Michael of Methuen, Anne Marie Censullo and her husband Joseph of Lynn and his son Thomas J. O'Connor of Lynn. Grandchildren; Sean O'Connor, Jennifer Smith and her husband Brian, Patrick O'Connor, Kevin Griffin, Brian Griffin and his wife Kadie, Paul Griffin, David Censullo, and Jackie Lee, who was like a granddaughter to him. Great grandchildren include Raine, Haven and Jazzlyn Smith as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph O'Connor.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 9:00 AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rte 129) Lynn followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM in St. Ann's Church in Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 29 Barker Street, Lawrence MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM.
