Mr. William J. Rogers, age 92, of Lynn, died Friday at Phillips Manor Nursing Home in Lynn after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary F. (Homan) Rogers. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late George and Theresa (Flynn) Rogers. He was raised in Lynn and lived in Saugus before returning to Lynn, where he lived for the past 65 years.
A graduate of Saugus High School, William served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a milkman for HP Hood for many years until his retirement in 1969. He also worked as a Greenskeeper for the Bellevue Golf Club for six years, and the Ferncroft Country Club for nine years until his retirement in 1985. An avid golfer, he was also a member of Gannon Golf Club. William was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Lynn.
He is survived by two sons; William J. Rogers, Jr. and his wife Dianne of Dover, NH and John J. Rogers and his wife Joanne of Brentwood, NH; two daughters; Jane Cahill and her husband Thomas of Lynn and Terry Ann Rogers of Lynn; 6 grandchildren; Kimberly Rogers of Chicago, Katie Arnold of Durham, NH, Kevin Cahill of Stuttgart, Germany, William Cahill of North Reading, Daniel Cahill of Lynn, and Jack Rogers of Lynn; 4 great-grandchildren; Morgan, Erin, Caitlin and Charlotte Cahill; his sister; Beverly Hines of Saugus; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Westby, George, and Allan Rogers.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10AM in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM. Those who prefer may make donations to a charity of your choice.
