Mr. Stephen F. Burke, age 61, of Lynn, died Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Doreen A. (Chiappini) Burke, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John and Phyllis (Hopkins) Burke. He was raised in Lynn, and was a graduate of Lynn Trade School, class of 1970. He lived in Maryland and South Carolina until returning to Lynn, where he lived for the greater part of his life.
Steve served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver for the former West Lynn Creamery, now Garelick Farms for 30 years. Golf was Steve's passion, and he was a member of the GE golf league at Gannon Golf Course in Lynn. He was also an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Lynn. Steve was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, and he will be remembered as a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandson. He was loved by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; Amanda Burke and her fiancé Paul Gonzales and Danny Burke and his fiancé Corinne Calnan all of Lynn; his grandson; Jacob Gonzales of Lynn; his sister; Sherry O'Connell and her husband Tom of Port St. Lucie, FL, his brother James Burke of Port St. Lucie, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John T. Burke.
The family would like to thank VNA Care Network and Hospice of Danvers for the care given their loved one.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn at 10AM. Burial will be on Tuesday at 10AM in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8PM.
