Mr. Walter R. "Buddy" Gillis, age 59, of Flagler beach, FL, formerly of Saugus, died in Florida on Thursday August 27 after a brief illness. A longtime Saugus resident, he was the son of Dorothy (Casey) Gillis and the late Walter Gillis. He was educated at St. Mary's High School, Lynn as well as Annapolis and UMass.
Buddy was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Battalion, 1st Regiment. He had worked as an electrician and was a member of I.B.E.W #103. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a founding member of the Warrior Brotherhood of Veterans Motorcycle Club in Florida.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his 3 children; Michelle Fisher and Chris and Rory Gillis; 2 grandchildren; Samantha Fisher and Lacey Gillis; his siblings; Jean Rimer, Maryann Turner and Richard Gillis; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Dorothy Riley. The family also offers special thanks to his caring friends, Jeff and Christine.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8PM in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #86, 208 South 6th St., Flagler Beach, FL 32136.
