Mr. Richard W. Boyden, age 72, of Humphrey St., Swampscott, died Sunday at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Swampscott, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Eleanor J (Reardon) Boyden. He was a graduate of Swampscott High School, class of 1958, and received his associate's degree from the Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston.
Richard worked as a surveyor for Landmark Surveying in Lynn for many years. He had also worked as a security guard at the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott. He volunteered his time at the All Star Lanes in Lynn, coaching the youth leagues for 17 years. He also organized a yearly fundraiser there to benefit "Jerry's Kids" and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Richard coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Swampscott, and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his longtime companion; Jean Valliere of Lynn; his sister; Mary Ann Cook and her husband Howard of Westborough and Marco Island, FL; his sister-in-law, Janet Boyden of Chester, NH; his nieces and nephew; Patricia Elizabeth Bruno of Westborough, Dr. Stephen Cook of Pittsburgh, and Jennifer Boyden of Manchester, NH; as well as 4 great-nieces and nephews; Sofia, Olivia, Joshua and Leo. He was the brother of the late Raymond F. Boyden.
His visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 9AM-11AM in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt 1A), Lynn, with a service in the Funeral Home at 11AM. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Directions and guestbook at www.solimine.com
