Marion E. (Steele) Foley, age 86, of East Longmeadow, formerly of Malden and Lynn, died Tuesday peacefully at her home with her family by her side. Born in Malden, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (Robishaw) and Peter White Steele. She was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. Marion lived in Lynn from 1974 until 2004, at which time she moved to East Longmeadow. She also spent her winters in St. Petersburg, FL for 20 years.
Marion worked as a bookkeeper for Kappy(TM)s Importing and Distributing Company in Everett for 30 years until her retirement in 1989. Prior to that, she worked for Filenes from 1942-1948, which is where she met her husband, John. An avid golfer, she also enjoyed traveling and eating out in fine restaurants. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son; John Steele Foley and his wife Jackie of Malden; 3 daughters; Kathleen DaSilva and her husband James of East Longmeadow, Elizabeth Sandler and her husband Robert of Lynn, and Nancy Battaglino and her husband Adam of Marlboro; 7 grandchildren; James DaSilva and his wife Amanda of Lynn, Jill DaSilva of Stoneham, Jodie DaSilva and her fiancé, Matthew Rivard, of Melrose, Ryan Sandler of Lynn, Erik Sandler and his wife Stephanie, of Melrose, Sarah Sandler of Lynn and Nicholas Battaglino of Marlboro; and 1 great-granddaughter; Sydney DaSilva; She was the mother of the late Thomas Francis Foley, former wife of the late John Francis Foley, and sister of the late Dorothy DeCoste, Marjorie Shanley, Francis Peter Steele, and Myrtle Ell.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 8AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt 1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary(TM)s Church, Lynn at 9AM. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery, Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-8pm. Those who prefer may make donations to National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts
