A lifelong resident of Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Goniprow) Swirka. She attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 1948. For many years Lil and Gene spent their winters in Port Charlotte, Fla.
A former longtime Parishioner of St. Patrick's Parish, Lynn, she was a member of the Lynn Fire Department Auxiliary, and with her husband Gene was active in many of the activities at the Knights of Columbus in Lynn, including their Bingo program where she was a volunteer for many years. Lil enjoyed knitting, dancing, and all sports. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her sons and their families.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons; Daniel Carmody Jr. and his wife Susan, of South Deerfield, Richard Carmody and his wife Donna, of Swampscott, and Dennis Carmody and his wife Cathy, of Lynn, a sister Vallie Kench, of Haverhill, two brothers Edward "Bill" Swirka and his wife Joyce, of Rhode Island, and Charles Swirka and his wife Barbara, of Salem, nine grandchildren; Dr. Jill Garrison and her husband Dan, Joan, Daniel, Sarrah, Kate, Michael, Christopher, Molly, and Jake Carmody, one great grandson Nathan Garrison, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Anthony Jr., Fred, Al, and Ray Swirka.
Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:15am from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME 67 OCEAN ST. (RTE1A), LYNN, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:15am in Holy Family Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hour's Tuesday 4pm-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923.
