Kathleen C. (Soucy) Weitzel, age 85, of Swampscott, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, in a local nursing home, after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late James and Mary Ellen (Ganley) Soucy. Born and raised in Lynn, she lived in Connecticut, Lynn and Swampscott most of her life. A graduate of Naugatuck High School in Connecticut and Burdett College, she worked as a sales representative for New England Telephone and Verizon for 34 years until her retirement in 1983. In 1984 she began working as a classified ad representative for the Lynn Item for 13 years. A communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott, she was a former member of the Senior Choir and Lady's Sodality. She was also a member of the Sweet Adeline's of the North Shore for years and the Telephone Pioneers. Kathleen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed walking at the beach, dancing, music and playing the piano.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy Jordan and her husband Tom of Lynn and Diane Philbrook of Florida and her husband Tom of Salem; grandchildren Torry Jordan of Clinton, Michael Jordan and his wife Amy of Peabody, Melissa Re and her husband Chris of Salem, Jason and Andrew Philbrook, both of Altamont Springs, Florida. She also leaves six great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Paul Weitzel, and the cousin of the late James Buckley.
Her funeral will be held from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN & RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt129) Lynn on Wednesday at 9AM followed by funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott at 11AM. Interment in Swampscott Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be from 9-10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St. Suite B102, Danvers, A 01923.
