Mr. George Andrews, 89 years of Lynn and formerly of Salem, died Sunday in a local nursing home after a brief illness. He is the husband of Mrs. Rose (Jaroma) Andrews.
He was born in Lynn, the son of the late John and Delia (Andrews) Andromidas. He was raised in Lynn and attended Lynn schools. He lived on Linden Street in Salem for many years.
He was a Chief Petty Officer in US Navy Veteran of WWII. He served on the USS West Point and crossed the Equator several times. He was a member of IUE Local 201 in Lynn and a member of the Thompson Quarter Century Club. He was a longtime member of St. Georgeâ€(TM)s Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn. Mr. Andrews was an avid sports fan.
He was employed as a turbine assembler at the General Electric Company, Riverworks Plant in Lynn While at GE he was sent all over the globe as a consultant repairing GE Turbines. He retired in 1982 after over 40 years of service.
He is survived by a daughter Karen Stephenson of Peabody and a son John Andrews of Salem, 3 grandchildren: Lia Stephenson of Lynn, Victoria and Elizabeth Andrews of Peabody. He also leaves a brother James Andrews of Yorktown Heights New York and several nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Edna Coulouris and Aphrodite Walker.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rte 129) Lynn followed by funeral services in St. George Greek Orthodox Church Lynn at 10:00 AM Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
