Mrs. Evangeline M. "Vangie" (Lobao) Chipman, age 88, of Lynn, died peacefully on Sunday at her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Walter L. "Chip" Chipman. Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late John and Virginia (Chaves) Lobao. She was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1940, and Lynn Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1944. She had lived in Lynn since 1947.
A registered nurse, Vangie had worked at Lynn Hospital before joining the Army. While in the Army, she was stationed on a hospital ship in the Philippines and Japan. She later worked for Dr.'s Phelan and Jenkins, the Public Health Office for the City of Lynn, and then for the Lynn Public School System until her retirement in 1991.
She was a longtime member of the former Wesley United Methodist Church in Lynn, and had been the church historian. She was a member of Shoemaker Post 345, Lynn. She loved gardening and had been involved with her children's sports activities, including hockey and Wyoma Little League. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family.
She is survived by four sons; Timothy J. Chipman and his wife Donna T. of Wilbraham, Peter L. Chipman and his wife Pat of Lynn, Kenneth P. Chipman and his wife Donna J. of Wakefield, and David J. and his wife Karen of Lynn; her daughter-in-law; Pamela Chipman of CT; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her sister; Violet Newey and husband Norman; and her brother John Lobao and wife Irene, all of Peabody, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robert W. Chipman; grandmother of the late Jeremy Chipman, and sister of the late James and Wilson Lobao.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10AM in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert W.
